CHAATUR MAAS FOR SANYAASI

In Hindu dharma, Sanyaasi should not stay for long at one place. Sanyaasi is a wandering monk and he or she should distribute knowledge among people in the society. Politicians should remain in touch with people,similarly Sanyaasi should be connected with people in society for giving them wisdom.



Thus, Sanyaasi finds difficult concentrating on his own sadhanas,since he roams around everywhere. So shastras say that sanyaasis and gurus should do sadhana during Chaatur-maas time in a year,by settling down at one place. Chatur-maas is rainy time and they should settle at one place and perform sadhanas. Lord Vishnu enters sleep during this period and Devi sadhanas like dhumavati sadhana are fast acting during chaatur-maas.

Basic siddhantha in sanyaas ashram is ahimsa. Not causing physical,mental and ideological himsa to others is ahimsa.Even during times of Mahavir and Buddha ,sanyaasi took food as bhiksha from houses.Sanyaas life aims at ending false pride in human being.Sanyaasi should not unnecessarily pluck flowers,fruit or destroy trees. Infact for sadhus,fire is also varjit or avoidable.Initially chaatur maas was four months as its name indicates,but later it was converted into two months,where sanyaasis do sadhana. 

Sanyaasi ,instead of depending on fate,gives importance to Karma siddhantha of Gita.Hence he distributes the knowledge he earns from his guru to all the needy in the society.He keeps dand in his hands since he protects vedas.This reminds him constantly that his duty is to protect the Vedas.Sanyaasis does constant mantra chanting,pooja,dhyaan during chatur maas and in Kaarthik month they again start roaming in the world.Gurudev Shrimaliji has stressed on manasik sanyaas even while remaining in this world as grihastha.

Grihasth person can also understand basic siddhanth of chaatur-maas and do sadhana aradhana during this period.Ahimsa means making oneself strong and not causing problems to others.
